A 3-1 loss to Des Moines East at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines halted a four-game winning streak for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn boys’ soccer team.

After entering the season ranked No. 8, the Tigers (4-4) have fallen out of the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings, but are still receiving votes.

In their match against East, the Tigers fell into a 3-0 hole that A-D-M coach Bill Shields attributed to “missed scoring opportunities, mental mistakes and a lack of concentration.”

Jacob Hutzell had the only goal in the match for the Tigers. Senior goalkeeper Darold Baker made two saves and allowed three goals in the loss to East.

The Tigers next match is against Ballard in Huxley on Thursday. The match begins at 7 p.m.

A-D-M’s Derek Gushiken scored his second and third goals of the season, both on penalty kicks, in the Tigers’ 3-2 win on the road against Knoxville on April 17.

The Tigers were down 1-0 in the first half and 2-1 in the second half and came back to tie the match and eventually win the match both times. Gushiken’s first penalty kick goal tied the match 1-1, while his second penalty kick goal was the game winner.

Hutzell had the Tigers’ second goal that came in the second half and tied the game 2-2.
