There were two second place finishers at the state track meet at Drake Stadium last weekend for the Tigers, as they finished off an impressive season. The girls took eighth place overall with 29 team points, one point ahead of Dallas Center-Grimes, and the boys took 20th overall with 12 team points.
Tate Jensen competed in the 400 meter hurdles at state for the Tigers and took second place overall. He was in section one and finished far and away ahead of the pack with a time of 53.85 seconds.
Still the leader after section two finished, it was down to section three. Tommy Bates of Waverly-Shell Rock crossed the line with a similar time to Jensen, and Jensen raised his hands into the air until Bates’s time of 53.73 showed on the video board.
Kari Dufoe was the runner up in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.47, which was just .27 seconds behind Rose Ripslinger of Davenport Assumption, who set the new record at the state track meet. Dufoe also took third place in the 200 meter dash.
Jensen also took sixth place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.32. Grant Goeden for the Tigers took 16th place in the 100 meter dash.
The Tigers’ boys distance medley relay team took eighth place while Jesse Bennett took 15th place in the shot put with a trow of 46-11.65.
The Tigers’ girls 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams each took third place at the state track meet while the distance medley relay team took sixth place.
Brianna Mueller competed in the 800 meter dash and achieved a ninth place finish.
