Top-ranked DC-G sailing right along

Dallas Center-Grimes improved to 8-0 with a 7-1 victory at Ankeny on Tuesday.

Class 5A No. 5 Ankeny took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the Fillies, ranked first in Class 4A, rallied with seven runs in the final three innings, including a four-run fifth.

DC-G also added wins over Dowling Catholic, West Des Moines Valley and Des Moines East at a tournament in Des Moines on June 1, and picked up a road win against Winterset on May 31.

Jackie Peyton was 3-for-4 in a 6-0 victory over Dowling, a game in which the Fillies again scored all their runs in the final three innings. Paige Lowary added two hits and struck out 11, allowing one hit and six walks in the victory.

The Fillies rallied with a three-run sixth inning to beat Valley 3-2. Tabitha Taylor homered and drove in two, and both Rachel Lowary and Macey Wolfe were 2-for-3. Paige Lowary struck out nine, walked five and allowed four hits.

A five-run eighth inning lifted DC-G past East, 7-4. Taylor scored twice and was one of six players to drive in runs. Peyton singled and plated two while Rachel Lowary earned the win, striking out seven, wakling six and allowing four runs, three earned, in the victory.

Paige Lowary struck out 12 in a 5-4 victory at Winterset. Rachel Lowary was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two driven in, Taylor was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and both Wolfe and Paige Lowary had two-hit games.

DC-G was to host A-D-M on Wednesday before traveling to Boone Thursday.
