After winning 18 consecutive games to start the season, the top-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes softball team was dealt a pair of defeats in recent action.

Seventh-ranked Ballard pushed across a run in the seventh inning to beat host DC-G 1-0 on Monday in Dallas Center. Paige Lowary and Kenzie Ihle went head to head in the pitcher’s circle. Ihle sturck out 10 and Lowary 11. Both surrendered just three hits.

The Fillies split a pair of games with Class 4A No. 3 Solon on June 14-15, falling 7-2 in the first game before winning 10-5 in the rematch. Allison O’Brien and Macey Wolfe homered in the first game and in the rematch, three players homered. Rachel Lowary homered and drove in four, Tabitha Taylor homered and drove in three and O’Brien homered and drove in two.

The Fillies also added an eight-inning, 1-0 win over Southeast Polk on June 14 in Urbandale. Paige Lowary was 2-for-2 with a double, and also picked up the win with 11 strikeouts in eight innings pitched. Rachel Lowary scored the team’s lone run in the eighth inning.

The Fillies’ difficult schedule continues this week as they play host to No. 2 Winterset on Thursday in Dallas Center. They’ll also compete in a tournament in Iowa City on Friday and Saturday, where they’ll face Solon again as well as Class 3A No. 2 Mid-Prairie.
