Van Meter’s season comes to an end

The Van Meter softball team lost at Earlham 12-2 in the regional tournament and saw its season come to an end. The game ended in the fifth inning, where Earlham scored five runs to gain a 10-run lead.

The Bulldogs finish with a 13-15 record overall. Bailey Richards, the Bulldogs’ pitcher, led the team in batting with a .573 average. She also had three homeruns and 31 RBIs.

Casey Jamison, a sophomore this year, led the team in RBIs with 32. Richards and Ali Flaherty, a junior, led the team in runs scored with 36 each.

Richards started 15 games in the circle this season and finished with a 5.41 ERA and a record of 9-4. Opponents batted .282 against her this year.

The Bulldogs didn’t have any seniors on the roster this season, but had three juniors who will return for their senior season next year. They are Casey Lavia, Nicole Meyer and Flaherty.
