Van Meter boys’ and girls’ compete at Earlham

The meet was shortened due to windy conditions, but the Van Meter boys’ and girls’ track teams were still able to get outside for the first outdoor track meet of the season at the Earlham Early Bird meet on Monday.

The Bulldog boys won five events at the Early Bird meet while the Bulldog girls won one event on Monday.

Katie Agey got first place in the girls 100 meter dash finishing with a time of 13.47, which was 0.12 seconds ahead of West Central Valley’s Olivia McAtee, who finished in second place in the event. Agey also placed third in the girls long jump with a distance of 14-04.50

Parker Suckow got first place in the boys shot put with a throw of 139-01. Brennan Dostal won the boys 100 meter dash event with finishing 0.42 seconds ahead of Panorama’s Jesse Haworth with a time of 11.36.

Dostal also took first in the boys 200 meter dash with a time of 23.22 while Grant Hoppes took first in the boys 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.51. Hoppes also helped the Bulldogs to a first place finish in the boys 4x800 meter relay as they finished with a time of 9:15.88, which was 14.14 seconds ahead of Panorama’s team.

Mackenzie Roberts got fifth overall in the girl shot put with a throw of 28-01 while Nicole Meyer got second place in the girls high jump with a height of 4-08. Ben Flaherty got second in the boys high jump with a height of 5-08.

The Bulldogs picked up a fifth place finish in the girls distance medley, finishing with a time of 5:34.83 while also finishing in fourth in the girls 4x200 meter relay with a time of 2:06.71. Van Meter’s Ashley Lauren finished in fifth place in the girls 200 meter dash.

In the boys 400 meter dash, Van Meter’s Justin Ashlehy got second place with a time of 58.78, while his teammate Seth Ashley finished 2.25 seconds behind him for a fourth place finish.

Luke Costlow got fifth place in the boys 110 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 18.56.

The Van Meter girls’ track team will compete again on Thursday at Osceola and the boys and girls will compete at the Hugh Norman Relays on April 8 in Adel.
