Van Meter boys lose to Panorama, season ends

The Van Meter boys’ basketball team saw its season come to an end after a 19-2 regular season record had them in the district semifinals against Panorama. Despite the Bulldogs winning the previous two meetings between the two teams, Panorama won the district semifinal game by a score of 62-56 in Urbandale on Feb. 22.

Back on Dec. 20, the Bulldogs played against Panorama for the first time of the season and won by a final score of 63-53 in Panora. They didn’t play each other again until Jan. 31 where the Bulldogs were victorious once again, winning 49-36 in Van Meter.

At the end of the regular season, Stephen Folkerts was the leading scorer on the team, averaging 18.9 points per game shooting 53.6 percent from the field throughout the season. Folkerts also led the Bulldogs in offensive rebounding (47), defensive rebounding (130) and total rebounding, pulling down 170 total rebounds on the season.

Brandon Brittain averaged 11.8 points per game while also leading the team with 82 assists and 48 steals throughout the season. Brittain was also the team’s biggest 3-point threat as he nailed 29 treys this season.

Ben Flaherty shot 51.3 percent from the field and scored 10.1 points per game on average.
