The Van Meter softball team won once and lost twice at a tournament in Winterset on May 30 and 31. They lost 7-4 to Harlan, won 8-0 against Nodaway Valley and lost 3-2 to Interstate 35.
Freshman Kila Carbine struck out eight batters, but gave up seven runs on the mound for the Bulldogs against Harlan. Casey Jamison, a sophomore, had a homerun and two RBIs in the game.
Bailey Richards also had a homerun for the Bulldogs while going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Against Nodaway Valley, Carbine pitched four innings and struck out four batters while picking up the win. Casey Lavia went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and one run scored while Richards went 2-for-3 and also had two RBIs and one run scored in the game.
Against I-35, the game went into extra innings and the Bulldogs gave up the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Hannah Mason, an eighth grader was credited with the loss after relieving Carbine after seven innings on the mound.
Ali Flaherty scored both runs for the Bulldogs against I-35.
