The Van Meter baseball team has finally played a game at their home field in Van Meter this season. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs (9-1) defeated Ogden 5-3 at home.
Zach Forret and Jacob Eslick scored two runs each in the win. Ben Engstrand went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Logan Crawford gave up just four hits and two runs while fanning eight batters and being credited with the win. Crawford is now 2-1 this season with a 2.80 ERA.
Even though he has the Bulldogs’ only loss on his record, opposing hitters are batting just .145 against him this season, which ranks second among starting pitchers for Van Meter. Kyle Schmitt ranks first in that category with batters hitting just .090 against him this season.
The Van Meter baseball team played the last game in a streak of nine-straight games away from home to start the season on Monday. The Bulldogs beat Panorama 9-2 on Monday night.
Crawford picked up his third win of the season on the mound and is now a perfect 3-0 on the year. He went all seven innings against Panorama and struck out 11 batters while giving up five hits and two earned runs and issuing two walks.
Logan Crawford went 3-for-5 with two runs and three stolen bases. Ben Flaherty went 1-for-1 in four plate appearances, was walked three times and scored three of the Bulldogs’ nine runs.
Colton Boswell went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and batted in two runs.
The Bulldogs won 10-4 over Albia at a tournament in Albia on June 7. Brandon Brittain picked up the win on the mound pitching five innings and giving up four runs on seven hits while tallying four strikeouts.
Brittain also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a homerun, three RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Crawford was walked twice and scored two runs.
West Central Valley
The Bulldogs beat West Central Valley in Stuart 10-0 in five innings on June 5. Grant Waller started the game on the mound and picked up the win.
Ben Engstrand went 3-for-3 in the game and had three RBIs and a double. Crawford scored three runs while Zach Forret scored twice.
