Waukee put seven runners in the top 11 to edge Dowling Catholic for the boys’ Urbandale Invitational crown on Sept. 5.
The Warriors’ seniors led the way. Ryan Tunink was second with a time of 16 minutes, 45 seconds. Brennan Borgestad was third in 17:05, followed by Noah Larrison (sixth in 17:24), Mohad Awan (seventh in 17:27) and Austin Krohnke (eighth in 17:35). Seniors Henry Oberman and Nathan Schaffer were 10th and 11th.
Waukee finished with a team score of 26, narrowly edging defending Class 4A champ Dowling Catholic, which finished with 35 points. The meet was run with a ninth- and 10th-grade race, and an 11th- and 12th-grad race. The times were then combined for overall team scores. Other top finishes by the Warriors came from Billy Torgerson (13th), Zac Dietrich (18th), Kevin Kato (20th), Michael Fellers (23rd), Nathan Sanders (29th) and Lincoln Phillips (30th).
A-D-M finished seventh in the nine-team event with a score of 215. The Tigers were led by Josh Berger, who was 27th in team scoring with a time of 18:58. A pack of Tigers followed him, including Scott Clabough (46th in 20:23), Trevor Danner (47th in 20:29), Trevor Harsh (49th in 20:32) and Connor Slater (50th in 20:33). Also running were juniors Mark Sinnwell (51st) and Kyle Ferguson (58th).
The A-D-M girls finished fifth in their seven-team race. Brianna Mueller was 11th in 16:53, and sophomore Erin Person was 27th in 18:35. Regan Engleman was 32nd in 19:49, Danielle James was 33rd in 19:50 and Jessica Gard was 38th in 20:55. Also running were Jenny Wicks (39th) and Erica Baier (40th).
A-D-M finished with a team score of 141. Dowling Catholic won with a 20, followed by Ankeny Centennial (41) and Urbandale (66).
