Warrior girls suffer season’s first two loss losses

The Waukee girls’ basketball team lost its first and second games of the season in the last week. The Warriors’ first loss of the season came against Southeast Polk on Feb. 7 in Altoona 54-49 and their second loss coming on Monday to West Des Moines Valley 59-54.

In a game that featured the third-ranked Tigers and the fourth-ranked Warriors, Waukee led after the first quarter 19-16, but Valley took control after that outscoring Waukee 13-7 in the second quarter and 17-14 in the third quarter handing the Warriors their second loss of the season.

Anna Kollmorgen led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points, hitting one three-pointer in the game. Ellie Cavanaugh hit two treys en route to 10 points in the game. Carlie Littlefield also hit a three-pointer and had 10 points in the loss.

Des Moines Lincoln

The Warriors bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 77-27 blowout over Des Moines Lincoln on Feb. 8.

Littlefield went 5-of-6 from the field and led the Warriors with 16 points. She also had seven of the team’s 20 total steals.

Sophomore Reilly Jacobson shot 6-of-6 and had 15 points while senior Taylor Wingert had 10 points. Cavanaugh led the team with five assists while senior Christina Behrens led the way with five rebounds.

Southeast Polk

The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season against Southeast Polk, who they beat 64-54 in their previous matchup back on Dec. 20, 2013. The Warriors lost 54-49.

Kollmorgen had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the contest. Wingert was the only other Warrior in double figures with 12 points.

Jacobson led the team in rebounds with 9 in the loss.
