Waukee picked off five Johnston passes and recorded six total takeaways in a 20-7 homecoming victory on Sept. 20.

Matt Hoeg had two of them, while Trevor Allen, Matt Corbett and Conner Cox all came away with interceptions and Anthony Nelson recovered a fumble.

Allen provided the punch on offense as well, with a 216-yard, two-touchdown performance. His first touchdown staked Waukee to a first-quarter lead, and his second proved to be the go-ahead score in the third quarter. Pat Gray, who ran for 53 yards on just six carries, added a fourth-quarter touchdown to widen the margin of victory.

Quarterback Ben Ferkin completed 5-of-11 passing for 110 yards. Michael Jacobson caught three of them for a team-high 70 yards.

Waukee, ranked seventh in Class 4A by the Associated Press, opens Class 4A Division 4 play on Friday at Des Moines Roosevelt. The Roughriders are also 3-1 this season, winners of a 43-13 game against Des Moines North last week.
