Waukee took a big step in its quest for a division title with a 30-9 victory at Southeast Polk on Oct. 4.

With the win, the Warriors avenged a 41-8 loss to the Rams last season and established themselves as one of two teams still undefeated in Class 4A Division 4 play. They’ll meet the other one, Council Bluffs Lincoln, next week.

Trevor Allen broke out for 192 yards and three touchdowns, the longest a 57-yard scamper in the second quarter. Isaac Bruns kicked a 22-yard field goal in the first, and Ben Ferkin connected with Alex Sturm on a 20-yard scoring play in the fourth.

Ferkin was an efficient 6-of-11 passing for 127 yards. Sturm caught two passes for 75 yards, and Michael Jacobson hauled in two for 31 yards.

The Warrior defense racked up five turnovers for the third time this season. Matt Hoeg and Conner Wachter recorded inteceptions, and Matt Corbett, Chris Kickbush and Andrew Rozeboom recovered fumbles.

Waukee has the luxury of playing two of its final three regular season games at home, beginning Friday against Des Moines East. The Scarlets are 1-5 overall after a 42-32 loss to Council Bluffs Lincoln last week.
