Waukee advances to substate finals

The Waukee baseball team, who have been having a strong season already, opened up substate play with a 10-0 win over Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln in Waukee on July 18. The Warriors get a second-round by now and will play in the substate finals in Waukee on Wednesday against either Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson, who defeated Ankeny on July 18, or Norwalk, who defeated Lewis Central on the same day.

The Warriors started with two runs in the first inning, and then four runs in the bottom of the second inning. One more run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth ended the game in Waukee’s favor.

Levi Schreiner went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and four RBIs. Luke Fegen went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Robert Primrose also had two RBIs.

Matt Mullenbach got the win on the mound, going five innings and striking out seven batters while allowing only one hit in the shutout.

The substate finals will be in Waukee on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
