Waukee boys sweep J-Hawks, Rams

A nine-run second inning lifted Waukee to a convincing victory in the first game of a doubleheader sweep at Urbandale on June 26.

The Warriors won game one 14-3, and edged the J-Hawks 7-5 in the nightcap.

Jordan Niehaus collected three doubles and drove in five runs in game one. Luke Fegen was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Matt Hoeg and Andy Rushenberg each scored three times and Matt Corbett homered and drove in two. Malik Moore struck out 10, allowing three runs on five hits in the five-inning victory.

Waukee scored four runs in the sixth inning of game two to rally for the win. Hoeg doubled and drove in two and Corbett was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Addison Meyers picked up the complete-game victory, allowing nine hits and striking out four.

The Warriors went on to sweep Southeast Polk for the second time this season on Monday by capturing victories of 5-2 and 13-5. Andy Rushenberg hit a grand slam in the second game in support of Addison Meyers, who went the distance for the Warriors.

Waukee also split a pair of games in the Prange Classic on June 28, edging Indianola 6-5 but falling to Davenport Assumption 2-0.

Corbett had two RBIs against Indianola and Hoeg was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Fegen and Austin Battaglia each had four of the team’s six hits against Assumption.
