Waukee girls get back to winning ways with win over Dowling

After losing two-straight games on May 21 and May 23, just the second and third losses of the season, the Waukee girls’ soccer team got back to its winning ways on May 24 with a 1-0 win over West Des Moines Dowling Catholic.

Alyssa Hewitt scored the only goal of the game with Hannah McDevitt delivering the assist on the game-winning goal. Goalkeeper Miranda Hunzeker stopped all seven shots she faced and preserved the shutout for the Warriors.

The Warriors played against Dallas Center-Grimes on Wednesday night, but the score was not available before press time.

Their next game is against Southeast Polk in the regular season finale before moving on to the regional tournament. They will play Marshalltown in the first round of the regional tournament on June 4 in Waukee at 6 p.m.

Linn-Mar

McDevitt scored the Warriors’ only goal against Linn-Mar in a 2-1 loss. Hunzeker made four saves and allowed two goals in the game.

The Warriors lost 1-0 against Johnston on May 23.
