Waukee girls win two of three at weekend tournament

After starting the season 7-0, the Waukee girls’ soccer team was dealt a pair of losses in recent action.

The first, a1-0 loss to Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.), came at a weekend tournament in Burlington on April 26. The second was a 2-1, shootout loss at Urbandale on Monday.

Ellie Bunz tied the game in the second half with a goal against the J-Hawks, but the Warriors lost 5-4 on penalty kicks.

The team won two of three games at the Burlington tournament, beating Manteno (Ill.) 5-4 and Granite City (Ill.) 2-1. Alyssa Hewitt had two goals and an assist against Manteno, Taylor Woods had one goal and one assists and Anna Kollmorgen tallied three assists. Hannah McDevitt and Rachel Muse also scored goals.

McDevitt and Hannah Cook scored goals in an overtime victory against Granite City, and Miranda Hunzeker made three saves in goal.

The Warriors travel Friday to Southeast Polk before returning home to host Mason City on May 7.
