After winning three-straight games, the Waukee softball team lost four-straight over the weekend and into Monday. They played against Pleasant Valley on July 4 and then against Cedar Rapids Xavier on Sunday at a tournament in Iowa City over the 4th of July weekend and lost both games before being swept by Southeast Polk at home on Monday night.
The Warriors lost to Southeast Polk 6-0 in game one and 7-4 in game two on Monday. In game two, Southeast Polk scored one run in every inning to defeat the Warriors after scoring one run in each of the first six innings of the first game.
On July 4, it took nine innings for Pleasant Valley to down the Warriors as went on to win 5-4, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Kaitlyn Menz came into the game to relieve Sarah Schaefer after 4.1 innings and was on the hook for the loss. Centerfielder Shaye Witte had three RBIs in the game and stole one base on a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
Taylor Hulsing went 3-for-4 at the plate and had one RBI.
In Sunday’s game against Xavier, the Warriors had a 4-0 lead at one point, but Xavier made the comeback and won the game by a score of 6-4.
Menz pitched six innings for the Warriors and was credited with the loss. Schaefer played first base in the game and went 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Warriors will start regional play on Saturday against Waterloo West in Waukee at 7 p.m. If they win that game they will play in the regional finals on July 15 for a chance to go to the state tournament.
