Waukee stops Norwalk in season opener

The Waukee baseball team opened the 2013 season with a 5-1 victory against Norwalk on May 24.

The Warriors pounded out 11 hits, including three by Tyler Johnson. Matt Corbett was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored, and both Matt Hoeg and Mick Price added two-hit games.

Austin Battaglia picked up the win, pitching four innings and allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out three. Kyle Kubiak struck out four over the final three innings.

The Warriors’ doubleheader on Tuesday with Urbandale was postponed.
