Waukee swimmers keep winning

The Waukee girls’ swim team continues to pile up victories this season and added three more in recent action.

The junior varsity squad logged a 125-58 victory over Fort Dodge’s varsity team on Tuesday.

Kate McLaughlin recorded three event victories. She won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:34.84 and the 100 freestyle in 1:02.63, and teamed up with Carly O’Dell, Raechel Kinney and Sanika Sherry to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:17.26.

Sherry won the 100 backstroke in 1:11.10, and swam with Kenzie Hanna, Katie Wang and Lacey Kwan to a win in the 200 medley relay. Wang won the 100 butterfly and Hanna the 100 breaststroke, while Rachel Brown won both the 200 and 500 freestyle.

A home meet against Des Moines Hoover on Sept. 5 turned into a double dual in Marshalltown against the Huskies and Bobcats after a scheduling conflict. The Warriors made the most of their trip to Marshall County by beating Marshalltown 119.5-66.5, and Hoover 145-38.

Waukee dominated with nine event wins. Zoe Bussanmas won the 50 freestyle in 26.67 and the 500 freestyle in 5:45.97 while teaming up with Maddie Gehrke, Ellie Blazenko and Camryn Somers to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:52.85.

Gehrke recorded victories in the 100 freestyle (53.85) and 100 backstroke (1:03.56), and swam with Somers, Blazenko and Jenny Brown on the winning 200 freestyle relay, which finished in 1:45.26.

Brown won the 200 individual medley, Blazenko took the 100 butterfly and Jilian Loos was victorious in the diving competition, beating Marshalltown’s Phoebe Lynk 187.5-170.45.

The Warriors return to the Waukee YMCA on Sept. 17 for a Central Iowa Conference Northern Division showdown with Ankeny.
